Spin Sucks started with the simple premise, to "Fight Against Destructive Spin!"
Too often when asked what we do for a living, we hear, "Oh. You're a spin doctor."
Um. No. That implies we lie for a living and, we don't know about you, but we're pretty darn ethical (even ethical to a fault, we've heard). So we are out to fight (and change) the negative perception of the PR and marketing industries.
In order to just that, the team at Arment Dietrich started Spin Sucks to provide expert information and advice on current issues and trends surrounding marketing, communication, social media, entrepreneurship, search engine optimization, and advertising.
Things started to take off from there. The blog gained a loyal following and began to win awards and recognition. Recent accolades include the 2010 Readers Choice Blog of the Year, a Top 42 Content Marketing blog from Junta42, a Top 10 Social Media blog from Social Media Examiner, and a top 40 blog on the AdAge Power 150.
The idea for Spin sucks Pro came from the success of the blog and the general excitement of the changes taking place in the PR industry, in the midst of a great recession. Gini decided it was time.
Spin Sucks Pro is courses through content. You start where you already have knowledge (level one is some cases and level six in others) and you build your expertise as you go. Many of us go to events and conferences and learn a ton, but then go back to the office completely overwhelmed about where to start first. Then our day-to-day lives take over and that conference was six months ago and we've done anything with what we learned.
Now you have an easy way to learn: At your pace, when it's convenient for you, and based on what you need to better do your job. If you already have strong knowledge of media relations, but have no clue about social bookmarking, great! We have a path for you. If you've already implemented mobile payments, but have no clue what to do in a crisis event, awesome! We have a path for you.
